Our commitment is one of the things that makes the difference: respecting local communities, supporting locally-led initiatives, building relationships over transactions, and prioritizing education and stewardship. Service should be rooted in humility, stewardship & relationship. The goal isn't to "save". It's to learn with communities, contribute where invited, and return transformed.

Is this voluntourism?

RISE Impact Journeys is intentionally designed to avoid many of the pitfalls commonly associated with voluntourism and short-term mission trips.

We recognize that travel with a service component can sometimes unintentionally prioritize the experience of visitors over the needs of local communities. We are committed to doing things differently.

Our journeys are educational experiences where learning, stewardship, and cultural exchange are central. We believe learning and exchange should benefit everyone involved—not just the travelers.

We are not "saving" communities

We reject the idea that visitors arrive as experts or heroes. Meaningful impact happens through humility, relationships, and long-term commitment.

We do not displace local labor

We avoid projects that take jobs away from local workers or ask participants to perform work they are not qualified to do.

We do not engage in poverty tourism

Communities are not attractions, and people are not projects. Our goal is to raise globally minded children who understand how to engage responsibly with the world.
